Announcing the Zero Waste Bag by Blue Earth Compost!

We are proud to announce that we are partnering with TerraCycle, an innovative recycling company that specializes in hard-to-recycle materials, to launch the Zero Waste Bag by Blue Earth Compost program.

Households and businesses in and around Hartford, Connecticut can access the recycling service for more than 20 hard-to-recycle items that are not accepted in curbside recycling bins. Materials accepted through the program include coffee capsules, cosmetic packaging, eyewear, office supplies, pet food packaging, toys, and various types of plastic packaging. The full list of accepted items, including descriptions of how each material will be recycled, can be found at www.blueearthcompost.com/zero-waste-bags.

Making recycling and composting easier is in our company’s DNA. For that reason, the partnership with Terracycle excited us from the start. We know that there are many people in Connecticut that really care about lowering waste and making the most out of materials. The Zero Waste Bag by Blue Earth Compost does exactly that.

Here’s how the Zero Waste Bag by Blue Earth Compost program works:

  1. Purchase

Customers can purchase Zero Waste Bags by visiting www.blueearthcompost.com and selecting the bag size that fits their needs.

  1. Receive supplies

Blue Earth Compost delivers the Zero Waste Bags to collect the material in a simple and convenient way.

  1. Fill Pouches and Schedule Pickup

Once the Zero Waste Bags are full and sealed, customers can place them with their Blue Earth Compost collection pail or on their doorstep. Customers who do not participate in Blue Earth Compost’s food scrap collection service can schedule a pickup by calling (860) 266-7346 or emailing admin@blueearthcompost.com.

  1. Recycle

Blue Earth Compost will pick up the Zero Waste Bags and TerraCycle will recycle the acceptable materials inside.

Material collected through the program will be received by TerraCycle’s material recovery partners, where it will be sorted manually and then automatically into individual components. Each material is then recycled into a raw format that can be used to make new products.

“The Zero Waste Bag by Blue Earth Compost program offers consumers a unique opportunity to divert even more waste from the landfill, in addition to the food scraps they already compost with Blue Earth Compost,” explained Tom Szaky, TerraCycle Founder and CEO. “By encouraging consumers to rethink what is truly waste, this service builds awareness that solutions do exist for items that may seem otherwise unrecyclable.”

The Zero Waste Bag by Blue Earth Compost program is available to any household or business in select towns in and around Hartford, Connecticut including Avon, Bloomfield, Branford, Canton, East Hartford, Farmington, Glastonbury, Guilford, Hartford, Madison, Manchester, Mansfield, New Britain, Newington, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, South Windsor, West Hartford, Wethersfield, and Windsor.
